Finally I bought a personal domain for this blog after several years. This is to monitize some income using the own domain. It cost me USD 10 but this is repaid immediately when I take up an opportunity, so in effect switching it is free for me. Who would have thought at this age I’d be back in school to get my nursing degree? I love being part of a team and I knew that when I was teaching all these years I wasn’t in the right place but you know, it took me years to finally admit that I needed to do something and get the degree I’ve longed for my whole life. I got dish tv so I could turn my brain off and just chill out since school and my fulltime job is just so overwhelming. I can’t wait to become a nurse and I’m only about 2 semesters away and I think that once I’m in the profession I was meant to be in I’m going to feel so good about myself and about my circumstances. I wish I had known sooner that this is what I was supposed to do because if I had I wouldn’t have waited so long to get on it and make this my life’s goal. Being a nurse is just perfect for me!

I came back from a short holiday somewhere nearby over Christmas. Now I am very busy with furnishing my new apartment for rental later on. It is costing me a bomb! Just this month and last month, my expenses were more than $10,000 each. I have to dig into my reserves to furnish the apartment in town. Today I will be there again for the installation of the air con in the second room and skirting in the 2 rooms. I have also decided to install metal door outside and a bird cage for the drying area.

I am entering Pimp My Cube Contest

I am entering a contest for Pimp my Cube which is my work space in a home office. See the mess around with loads of stuffs stacked on top of one another giving an eye-sore to the work place. But I have no choice. These are all much needed things, and I don't have enough storage space to put them away in a proper place away from my workstation. You can see the wires dangling around the laptop, my iPad 2 placed on top of the multi-functional printer since I am currently charging it - the battery is low at the moment.

And stacks of bags of stuffs to be put away for more walking space, but they are now under the table containing my fax machine. Used papers strewn all over the table and they will be collected as recycled paper to sell for some profit. But for the moment, I placed them there as it is more convenient.

Behind my workstation are bags and plastic bags of things like CDs, files, empty recycled bags, papers, office stationaries, etc. I think I really need a makeover with a new cube and proper cubicle to place all my office stuffs neatly on my workspace so that I can retrieve them without much effort. Help me!

For this Christmas, I bought myself a 916 gold bracelet at 13.93 gms for RM 197 per gram with some amount for the workmanship. I bought this at a shopping mall in Kuala Lumpur during my last trip a few days ago. It cost me about RM 2,820 and I treat this as a form of investment. The gold bracelet is very modern and stunning. It has Christmas baubles design and looks classy. It could be mistaken as a costume jewellery and people might not know that it is genuine gold. I am very happy with my purchase and this is the incentive for working hard month after month for the last 7+ years. I have saved up some money to afford myself little luxuries like this once in a while. Yesterday my boss told me to check out online airlines for tickets to Terengganu from Penang. Unfortunately there is no direct flight from Penang to Kuala Terengganu. You have to transit in Kuala Lumpur for both Air Asia and Firefly by MAS. Air Asia is a bit cheaper than Firefly which is a propeller plane and much smaller but the times are less frequent and not so convenient because it arrives at 9:00pm at night. There won't be anytime to visit the person in charge and this defeats the purpose. Alternatively, we might just drive down to KL and fly to Kuala Terengganu from the Subang airport.

Working at home certainly has its advantages. First of all, I save a lot of money on gasoline from commuting to a different work place. Secondly, I save money on office clothes and make-up. Last week, my boss has informed me that I will be going to KL this week. It will most probably be tomorrow or the day after. I have just finished processing 70 envelopes which is the third batch for this year - putting calendars and marketing letters into the envelopes, chopping the company address, pasting stamps, sealing them and finally pasting on the receivers' addresses. Although I work from a home office, there will always be work every day, depending on the amount which may vary according to email enquiries, etc. Sometimes, I also need to type out invoices and delivery orders and email them to existing clients. Being the only employee who handles all the computer work, I have to work fast and be proficient in MS Word, otherwise, you may be overwhelmed with the amount of work each day.

As I have mentioned before, one can get overwhelmed with using the computer and working for my present company because there may be lots of typing to do and other work to be completed. But thank goodness, my self-taught training as an Information Technology Trainer in Informatics, Singapore got me well prepared. I attended a prom gala dinner for my junior college in Singapore many years ago and borrow some plus size prom dresses from my aunt. At that time, I don't think the plus size prom dresses would have fitted me as I was of average weight and rather on the slim side. I guess I am blessed in a way that not everyone has. This is more than I can ask for and my dream job to work at home allows me to travel overseas once in a while with my sisters.

Clothes for Christmas

Christmas is just next month and around the corner. I used to shop for new clothes prior to Christmas from some clothes stores around my area. Christmas is a big event for my family and relatives and we used to celebrate it by having a family reunion during this festive occasion and exchange presents with one another. We will have an 8-course meal in a Chinese restaurant in a hotel in Singapore and also Penang.

The clothes stores have winter clothes to keep you warm for the very cold weather. They are classic and practical. The important function is to trap a layer of air for warmth just like the penquins huddling together in the Artic. This coming Christmas, I will be going to some resort in Malaysia and enjoy the cold mountain air in a tropical climate.

In the company that I work for, my boss uses the handphone very often on a daily basis to give instructions to his workers and to check the status of the job. Since he has so many workers working all over the country, he cannot possible go to every location to supervise them. Hence, the only communication is via the handphone.

Every month, his phone bills come to around $700 or more but that is fine with him because his business can be run smoothly by communicating with the suppliers, installers and clients. He is literally a one-man show with employees like me helping him out. And later on, I have to drive to SOSCO office to update the details of our present employees by deleting the names of those who have left and including the names of those who just joined the company.

Going to KL today

I will be going to KL this morning. Just came back from Langkawi 2 days ago and the trip was fruitful. Since my colleague sent the car for air con replacement, we have to use my olive green Myvi to drive down there. We are also using the GPS to look for clients' location around KL. Should be back to Penang on Saturday as there is much work to be done. Yesterday, my dad drove to Butterworth and I handed in the tender document for a government project. We have high chance of getting this project but we usually ask for 50% down payment first to start. I have started driving on my own to nearby places to assist in the job as one of our office boy broke his hand from a motorbike accident.

Some people are parasites, depending on others to feed them and refuse to work. It is not that they cannot work, but they choose not to work and take the easy way out, like sitting the whole day in the shop lot waiting for customers to walk in and give them business. For others, they prefer to nap the whole day and give excuse after excuse like cannot handle work pressure, etc. Just yesterday, I read an article in the newspapers of a young girl, a graduate in Computer Science from Australia who committed suicide after having depression and came back from Taiwan six months ago. This is so tragic as her condition could be averted by taking medication and seeing the mental health doctor. Just last week, I was also in KL, also for business. It is good to have a thriving business where we can get enquiries now and then and some serious customers wish to meet up with us for the project. Working Hard

It takes a lot of diligence to work hard on a consistent basis. But most of us then to slag when we are doing well or when there is no longer any financial lack. That is why I need to always transform by mind by the renewal each day to keep working hard for my retirement down the road. You never know when the rainy day will come one day, so it is better to store up for winter, so to speak.

Travelling Around

I just toured Hong Kong, Macau and Shenzhen in China early this month. It was a trip well spent and to rejuvenate from all the work every day - day in day out. I must say that Hong Kong is quite crowded, being a hilly terrain in a small area. I also came back from Kuala Lumpur last week and brought along my laptop to work with and to check emails from the several enquiries.

Kuala Lumpur is like second home to me now - I go there almost every week. And I love the food outlets in Taipan, a happening place that is full of activity with many banks, bakeries, eateries and commercial lots. Taipan is very near to the rented apartment in USJ. Whenever I have the opportunity, I will make it a point to travel to at least one foreign country per year and get to experience the many sights, cultures and people.

Afterall, it is not often that you get to travel when you are old - so might as well make the best use of the opportunities while you are young and mobile. Life is going on well for me - never having to struggle again to work in another organization and fear whether you will be confirmed or not. My current boss is generous and understanding. And the best part is that I work alone at home with a laptop and internet connectivity. This has been going on for the last 7 plus years and we are a small but dynamic company.

I just finished my lunch of kerabu bee hoon and a large curry puff, brought back by my youngest sister from Church. This is free lunch for the family. Now is back to blogging time. You might like to know that I work from my home office here in my pajamas. It is quite easy for me since I deal with the computer but it is not easy for my boss who has to deal with so many people - from disgruntled clients to those who default on payment. I sincerely hope that my boss will eventually get all his payment for the work rendered so that the company can continue its business and not wind up. We have more than 20 workers to consider and make payment often as they are paid on daily wages scheme. My boss has been very understanding with me and I hope that the small company will continue to get continuous projects for the rest of the year. Now is the second half of 2011 and the projects are much less compared to 2010. I know this because I keep a record in MS Excel file.

How I Met Your Mother is a silly show that I've watched for several years now on the directv that I got because I www.direc4u.com. Not only is the show incredibly funny, but it also has a habit of bringing in well-known celebrities for cameo appearances. I've enjoyed seeing Tim Gunn and Carrie Underwood on the show. Several years ago, Britney Spears made my favorite cameo appearance to date. I've never been a big fan of Britney, and I've always felt that she got too much press. However, I felt that she did a good job in her comedic role. She played the part of a ditzy and stalkerish young woman, and I laughed hysterically. I also thought she looked young, fresh and cute, which is always good.

I know a lot of people saw her role on How I Met Your Mother as a "comeback." Hopefully she will start to get her life together and take her acting and singing more seriously. I'm sure it was hard for her to grow up in the spotlight, and I think that being a mega star has had a tremendous impact in her life. Anyway, I'd like to see her play more comedic roles in the future.

Going to Hong Kong next month

I will be going to Hong Kong, Macau and Shenzhen in China early next month together with my 2 younger sisters. My youngest sister paid for the air fare for us while I paid for the hotel accommodation and ground tour and my second sister will pay for the food while we tour overseas. We are not keen to go to Hong Kong Disneyland as we have already been to the ones in USA and Europe. Moreover, we are more keen on sight seeing and to visit different places. It is a bit more costly but that is the motivation for working hard and being gainfully employed for the 3 of us.

I also travel frequently between KL and Penang, at least 2 -3 times a month. Therefore I need a good break from work and to relax and experience new places. My two younger sisters work very hard and we are all supporting our aged parents in their twilight years. As we don’t have children, we are able to enjoy visiting other countries and not tied down to family commitments unlike married couples.

I am now in Kuala Lumpur after arriving here in the afternoon yesterday. Tomorrow, I will be going to Genting Highlands and stay in Theme Park Hotel which has bigger rooms at more affordable rates. I was in Genting just last month and stayed at First World Hotel after the business trip. I could opt to attend MPO concert at Dewan Filharmonik Petronas but decided to enjoy the mountain air instead and go for thrilling rides at the theme park. This is the place to unwind when you are stressed out from working. I live to work and enjoy life to the fullest, not blogging all the time or writing articles after watching American Idol to earn miserable cents!

Got paid for my bonds

Today I received RM 205 in my Public Bank account for bonds invested some time back. It gives higher returns than Fixed Deposits which is at 5% compared to 2.75% for FD. The bonds are at 3 years maturity. Tomorrow, my 2 fixed deposits at Maybank will mature after 1 year tenure and I am going to put for monthly maturity compared to yearly. I always keep track of my finances and how much I have accumulated. This will give me an indication on how much to spend and whether I have reached my targeted savings. Making money and earning it is fun!

I have a Good Job

I only blog on a part time basis and not glued to blogging all the time. I have a full time job you know. And I get to work from a home office, enjoy perks like occasional travels now and then and earn by commissions. Sometimes my commissions are more than my basic salary. I was on a business trip last week when I got a call from Public Bank requesting me to go there and discuss about my investment in government bonds that has matured and money put back into my savings account. I am not sure what the bank officer wants to discuss with me about but I need to weigh the pros and cons of further investment that involves unit trusts or share market. I attended Frances Yip's concert a few days ago and my God, she has such a powerful golden voice! I bought her CDs for $30 and I love every one of her songs. She studied in a convent school and will never pose in the nude or wear too revealing clothes to bring in more sales. I believe she is a practicing Christian with strong values. The concert ticket cost $101 per person and the seat was in a corner right at the top. But nevertheless, there is a giant screen where you can see her facial features and expression when singing. I love to blog. What started out as a hobby turned into a money-making venture for me. Blogs are easy to create and post. I have more than 5 blogs and will continue to maintain them by posting constantly on a weekly basis. My blogs are simple in layout and easy to read. Even if not for the money, I will still continue to blog and post since I work from a home office that is equipped with a desktop, laptop, CPU, multi-functional printer with scanner, copier and a fax machine. I also have a digital camera to snap photos of completed projects of my current company and post them to the website. After a long day at work, I love coming home and watching a good show on my satellite television. One of my current favorite shows is called Lost and is extremely popular with people all over the world. The show's premise is on the people who get stranded on a deserted island. I've actually only watched a few episodes so far, but it's very good from what I've already seen. I can't get over how many people love this particular show and how many people actually go crazy when it's on. If I'm not mistaken, the show is actually in its sixth season. My brother actually purchased all of the seasons for my parents for the holidays. It was pretty good considering they love watching it when they are home from work and just relaxing in the living room.

Since I've only watched a few episodes, I may have to ask if I can borrow the series on DVD so that I can continue to watch everything from start to finish. I'm not really sure if they are planning on doing any more seasons, but I'm sure that they will be a complete success if they should come out with another season of the show Lost. My friends and I truly love sitting and watching this show when it happens to be on the Expert satellite television.

I have had a bitter sweet experience working in a carpet shop for 4 months in early 2000. Stopover in Tapah for Dunkin Donuts

Above is my order of doughnuts from Dunkin Donuts at a stopover in Tapah during my business trip to Kuala Lumpur recently. I am now in a blogging mood and with the free time that I have, I decided to update my several blogs with food photos and other lifestyle photos of my shopping list.

This is tuna croissant and chicken mayonnaise croissant that I had with my colleague. We departed about 10:00 in the morning and it was time for lunch when we reached Tapah which is midway between Ipoh and KL.

I have been going down to KL quite often about once a week to meet clients for the existing big projects in Old Klang Road. Later on, Lee Chong Wei will be present during the opening ceremony together with YB Datuk Seri Najib, our Prime Minister.

But now I have enough savings to last me many years and I still save up for my retirement down the road in time to come. Now I have a dream job to work in a home office with many benefits like occasional business travel now and then. I love my job a lot and enjoy every moment of it. I just came back from a visit to Union Clinic at Jalan Gangsa, near my house. My flu which has dragged on for 4 months, on and off, is 85% healed but not completely. So, I have to visit the doctor again to make sure that my cough with phlegm is completely cured. The family doctor gave me the same cough mixture, medication for the phlegm and some tablets to strengthen the lungs. This is the second visit to the same doctor within a week. Luckily there is no travel to KL this week, so I can rest and recuperate more at home. And I love my job, because I get to nap once in a while since I work at home.

But the rebellion's more organized military units were still not ready, and the opposition disarray underscored U.S. warnings that a long stalemate could emerge.

The air campaign by U.S. and European militaries has unquestionably rearranged the map in Libya and rescued rebels from the immediate threat they faced only days ago of being crushed under a powerful advance by Gadhafi's forces. The first round of airstrikes smashed a column of regime tanks that had been moving on the rebel capital of Benghazi in the east.

Monday night, Libyan state TV said a new round of strikes had begun in the capital, Tripoli, marking the third night of bombardment. But while the airstrikes can stop Gadhafi's troops from attacking rebel cities — in line with the U.N. mandate to protect civilians — the United States, at least, appeared deeply reluctant to go beyond that toward actively helping the rebel cause to oust the Libyan leader.

President Barack Obama said Monday that "it is U.S. policy that Gadhafi has to go." But, he said, the international air campaign has a more limited goal, to protect civilians.

"Our military action is in support of an international mandate from the Security Council that specifically focuses on the humanitarian threat posed by Col. Gadhafi to his people. Not only was he carrying out murders of civilians but he threatened more," the president said on a visit to Chile.

In Washington, the American general running the assault said there is no attempt to provide air cover for rebel operations. Gen. Carter Ham said Gadhafi might cling to power once the bombardment finishes, setting up a stalemate between his side and the rebels, with allied nations enforcing a no-fly zone to ensure he cannot attack civilians.

At the United Nations Monday, the Security Council turned down a request by Libya for an emergency session. Libya wanted "an emergency meeting in order to halt this aggression."

Watched MPO Concert in Petronas Twin Towers

I attended a Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) concert on 26th February at Petronas Twin Towers in KLCC. This was my first concert there and the theme was 'The Big B's' by Benjamin Britten and Anton Bruckner. The first performance lasted for about 22 minutes and was entitled Sinfonia da Requiem (Op.20). Thereafter, there was a 20 minutes break followed by Symphony No. 9 in D minor and the duration was 62 minutes. It started at around 8:30pm and finished at about 10:30pm. The men have to wear a suit or rent one. They could also wear long sleeved batik and no slippers are allowed. The tickets range from $25 per person to $95 for premium seats. And you get 10% discount if you are a Citibank credit card holder. So far, the performance was entertaining and it was conducted by Claus Peter Flor, now in his third season as Music Director of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra.

Of all the places that I have dined in Malaysia, I still prefer Penang food, but beware of the street hawker food that tends to add pork lard to their dishes for the flavour. I have come across a few types of soup dishes and stir fry dishes by the road side that adds pork lard to them which is unhealthy and may clog up the arteries. Tomorrow at 7:30am, my 2 younger sisters will go to KL by bus to attend MPO concert twice since they like it so much. As usual, they will stay in Impiana KLCC which is about 5 minutes walk away from the KLCC. They have attended MPO or Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra concert many times before and they simply appreciate classical music, thanks to my second sister from Suchou, China. I am going to attend with my friend soon and need to arrange a suitable date and time for the event. Most likely, I will stay at Mandarin Oriental which is just next door to KLCC using the free vouchers as a member of the Elite Club. Car Engine Failure after Meeting Client

I went to Sungai Petani yesterday with my colleague to meet up with a client when the car engine started to fail after the meeting. So we drove up to a road side car repair shop nearby and my colleague was advised to go to another bigger car service centre nearby to overhaul the engine. Well, it was going to take at least 4 -5 days for the complete change of car engine in Sungai Petani that my colleague decided to tow the car back to Penang and have it done by his mechanic. The car belongs to my colleague and it was highly used to travel frequenly to KL and recentlyy to Johor as well. No wonder the engine broke down.

I have not been to a concert like SSO (Singapore Symphonic Orchestra) for a long time since I was a student in Singapore. My 2 younger sisters will be attending an MPO (Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra) concert in Petronas Twin Towers next week. You know it and you have learned it well. Traffic is the lifeblood of any online business. Without traffic, there will be no leads. Without a list of leads, there will be no money on the table, because the old idiom always say “The money is in the list”.

So, a lot of online entrepreneurs face a lot of struggle dealing with driving traffic to their websites. Some sites are designed with the fanciest web animations and buttons, but they only survive for one year before going out of business; some only uses a simple HTML form and no more than three paragraphs of sales letter, yet it delivers millions to its owner on auto-pilot simply because it manages to drive tons of traffic constantly.

So how in the world do you drive traffic constantly?

Some propose to use a paid traffic method like advertising using Google Adwords. While some like to say that it would be better to use the free Search Engine Optimization (SEO) methods for long term goals. So, which one do you take?

I wanna say it clear and blunt based on my experience here, any method you take, paid or free, there is no short cut for endless and stable flow of traffic. Driving constant traffic is frustating. You will fail over and over again before you “get it”, whether using paid or free method.

The frustation using paid method is on the keyword research and targeting aspects. You will spent countless hours to test and re-test your campaign. Believe me, without proper guidance or eagerness, you will not be able to master the pay per click game.

How about free method, the SEO? This is also frustating. In order for your page to rank well, you need to look for backlinks, high quality and relevant ones, and if possible, a one-way back link.

Back a few years ago, social bookmarking sites like Digg was a gem in the one-way back link world for SEO lovers, but ever since get-rich-quick and adult-enhancement spammers exploited it, the sites put more and more strict spam filters.

Link exchanges are also a good option, but it is not as easy as it sounds. It takes a lot of hard work contacting webmasters asking them for link exchange. Most webmasters nowadays only want to link exchange with sites that are maintained consistently and have good Page Ranks.

So, do you still believe that driving traffic is a piece of cake?

Yes, I still believe that driving traffic is a piece of cake, if you use “out of the box” approach. One unique approach that you can use is by providing a free report in a PDF format containing links to your websites and product sales page.

“But Hans, this is old school!” Yes, I know it is old school but it still works, if you do it right. A lot of struggling internet marketers say “Ah, I know that…”, but they missed to “practice” their knowledge. No more of that now. Get off your seats and make a free report about your niche, and make it good, because after all, a good content is the most important.

After you make your free report, start distributing it. Use a newsletter and an autoresponder form. Contact webmasters and ask them whether they would like to share the report with their subscribers for free. Or better yet, lure them to sell your report for a profit just as long as they maintain your links in it. Now, can you imagine the effect of that report if one webmaster is willing to share it with 10,000 of his subscribers? Not to mention if those subscribers also share it with their networks and associates, the possibility is endless….

Above is a picture taken in Penang of red and green Christmas theme with red candles and poinsettias and spiky green Christmas leaves. Today is Christmas Eve on the 24th December 2010 and I will be spending most of the time later on travelling for a short break.

This is a nice Christmas tree taken locally with wrapped up presents, golden bells and baubles to decorate the otherwise bland tree.

Here is another shot of a different Christmas tree with Santa's cap right at the top instead of a star!

This was the high tea we had recently at 1885 Restaurant in E & O hotel. Since my friend is a member, we used up the free voucher before it expires at the end of the year.

Part of the high tea with sandwiches and buns. I had orange cream tea which came in a pot. It was simply flavorful and I loved the hint of orange peel in it. Well, that's it for now. Merry Christmas 2010 and Happy New Year 2011.
