Colorful Lights of Man-made Peacocks

Here are some colorful light display of Penang's PESTA site during the Chinese New Year. This is the first time ever the site was erected with huge colorful lanterns, animals and the acrobatic carnival 2007 from China. The entrance was RM15 but it was worth it. And not crowded with plenty of space to stroll around.

Video of Penang Lantern & Acrobatic Carnival 2007

Last night, I went to the Pesta site for the Penang Lantern & Acrobatic Carnival 2007. The entrance itself was RM15 for an adult. The Acrobatic team from China was awe-inspiring. They performed very difficult stunts and feats like twirling plates on poles with some balancing acts. The show also features great strength and balance by the young male acrobat. There was also a split second changing of masks repeatedly before the woman's face was revealed. It was like watching a magic show. There were also many large colorful lanterns erected in different Chinese themes of fairies, animals, buildings, etc. The video is shown below.

Plastic Surgery

A cousin of mine went for plastic surgery to create double eyelids for her otherwise slit looking Chinese eyes in her teenage years. The result was her eyes look better with the double eyelids than before the operation was done in Singapore. I suppose Singaporeans are more conscious of their looks, their weight and style of dressing that they will splurge heavily just to look good and be accepted. That aside, I used to be like one of them, but my bank account was stretched thin and I lived from salary to salary monthly. There was hardly any savings.

My lawyer aunt who has retired some time ago also had her best friend who was a plastic surgeon, Dr Cheah and both were not married. Unfortunately Dr Cheah died of breast cancer in her fifties and bequeathed all her property to her favorite niece. She had a clinic in Peace Centre and that was where my cousin had her double eyelids plastic surgery done. More and more plastic surgery procedures are being performed every year. Russian Artist Makes American Debut

Art has always impressed me in terms of the play of colors and general composition. There are many categories of art such as nature, still-life, surrealism, abstract, modern and more. I have also won prizes for art before in poster drawing and I was my Art teacher’s favorite student. Twice in 2 years consecutively, I have won prizes for my Art drawings. Hence, I love to tinker and put up pictures and photos in my blogs.

There is a Russian Artist Victor Lysakov who recently made his debut in America. Born in Siberia in 1952, Lysakov discovered his artistic talent at a young age. “It was when I was six years old that I realized, for the first time, that the most natural and the most fitting way for me to carry on a conversation with the world was through the visual language.”

In early adulthood, Lysakov veered off the creative path and focused on a more traditional education – engineering. In 1975, he earned his MS in Physical Chemistry from Moscow State Institute of Steel and Alloys. In the decade following, he established a successful career in various military machine building plants. At one time, he was even accountable for over 700 employees under his command. In 1984, he attained his Ph. D. in Technical Sciences from Lomonosov State Institutite of Fine Chemical Technology in Moscow. But it was his conviction to art that brought him back to his craft full-time.

Fire Crackers all over

Now it is 12:20am and quite a few household are worshipping their Chinese gods with offerings and the fire crackers are let off with a bang all over. As we drove down after watching a night movie entitled Rocky Balboa starring Sylverter Stallone, the night was illuminated with fireworks lighting up the night sky. I am unable to sleep even as I continue blogging now as there are sounds of fire crackers in the wee hours of the morning, though they are supposed to be banned. Oh well, instead of complaining of the incessant loud bangs, I might as well rave and rant in my blog.

This photos captures the fried rice wrapped in lotus leaves. It has dried shrimps, chestnuts, black shitake mushrooms and more. Taste like the local "bak chang" but less oil.

Dined in Genting Highlands - Part 1

I digged out some photos from last year and this is what I have found. We dined in a Restaurant that specialized in abalone, an expensive Chinese delicacy. Above is the photos with goose's webbed feet and some vegetables. It was a whole medium size abalone for the set menu at RM99++ per person.


This is double boiled sharks' fin soup with scallops, bits of chicken, fish maw and other goodies.

PaintBall Videos

PaintBall is an exciting shooting game between 2 teams. As this is quite a dangerous but fun game, face masks must be worn at all times on the playing field and in the neutral zone. The guns must have barrel plug in at all time when not in the playing field. And obviously, never shoot a referee or game official as this will result in the ejection from the game. The players should not blindly shoot but to look at the target as they have limited paint bullets. I have seen the paint bullets in KL, they are bright vermillion orange round ones and almost resemble some bubble bath baubles.

For the paintball game, there should be no physical contact and players must not touch another player or his equipment at any time. Like most games, the judges decisions are final. A player is marked out when a paintball breaks on him and leaves a mark the size of a quarter or larger anywhere on his body or equipment. Splatter from a paintball bursting on a barricade or any other object will count if it is a quarter or larger. Players rubbing or wiping paint during a game will be ejected from play. When a palyer is marked out he will call out loadly "I'M HIT" or "I'M OUT". Immediatly raise an arm, and exit the playing field as quickly as posssible. Other players may not shoot at him as he exits.


When a player has been hit in a location that he cannot see, he may call a paint check. The player must call out "PAINT CHECK" and continue to play. A judge will come over to check the player for a hit while the game continues. If a judge has his hands on a player during a check, that player is neutral and may not be fired upon. Yesterday, I have finished just 1 CD from a set of 4CDs of "Get that Job" by Trump University. Don't Create Duplicate Contents

Someone compiled this list and use several factors like number of links, check with Alexa, Technorati, Bloglines, and other metrics such as Sitemeter. While the results are just the opinions of a fellow blogger, and may not reflect the actual statistics, nevertheless, it is some information of the type of tools available out there. Here's one of the interesting comment.

Well decent traffic and links does not mean that they are “influential”, I thought the point of this post was to demarcate which blogs are the most influential in the Malaysian blogosphere? Of course some of these blogs are being run by individuals who are already influential in the real world, but this is the WWW and from the viewpoint of the WWW they are noobs, so why should they be accorded special treatment?

Also, one of them is from Brunei. Wierd that the blog is mentioned as a Malaysian one.

5.15% - EPF Declares Higher Dividend

The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) has declared a 5.15% dividend for last year, slightly up from 5% for 2005. The dividend will be credited into members' accounts by the end of this year. In a statement yesterday, EPF chairman Tan Sri Samsudin Osman said the higher dividend was because most of the fund's investments made money in 2006. This is a positive reinforcement of the EPF's prudent and effective investment strategies. In summary, here's the percentage given out over the years.

Proverbs 5

Here's my reading this morning from RSV for Proverbs chapter 5.

1. My son, be attentive to my wisdom, incline your ear to my understanding;
2. that you may keep discretion, and your lips may guard knowledge.
3. For the lips of a loose woman drip honey, and her speech is smoother than oil;
4. but in the end she is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.
5. Her feet go down to death; her steps follow the path to Sheol;
6. she does not take heed to the path of life; her ways wander, and she does not know it.
7. And now, O sons, listen to me, and do not depart from the words of my mouth.
8. Keep your way far from her, and do not go near the door of her house;
9. lest you give your honor to others and your years to the merciless;
10. lest strangers take their fill of your strength, and your labors go to the house of an alien;
11. and at the end of your life you groan, when your flesh and body are consumed, 12. and you say, "How I hated discipline, and my heart despised reproof!
13. I did not listen to the voice of my teachers or incline my ear to my instructors.

The discipline has to start from small and don't wait until he is a teenager and by that time, it is too late. Whatever moral values has to be inculcated when he is small. Verse 3 refers to a prostitute enticing young men and get them ensnared by her seductions. She is a loose woman, twists words to her advantage and trap young men like a fly to the trap. So, beware of her seductions.

Don't throw away your used ink cartridges

If you print a lot and used HP printers, don't throw away the used ink cartridges. You can resell them for RM5 each. Just buzz me for the contact number. Verse 33 is particularly interesting this morning. It reminds me of Psalms 91 - he who dwells in the shelter of the most high will rest in the shadow of the Almighty... And I will be protected from evil.
